I'm Jihane, founder of ZoujUp. I built the program I was looking for: 4 or 8 weeks of one-to-one Darija (Moroccan Arabic) with a Moroccan teacher, the format that got my daughter speaking Darija, and the app to test what you can really say with native speakers.
She understood a little but couldn't speak it. With one hour of class a week and Aïcha available between classes, I saw her first results within a month. The second month was even better. That is exactly the format of this program. She then went further, all the way to reading and writing Arabic.
As for me, I'm part of the Moroccan diaspora, born between two worlds. I spoke Darija, but I would sometimes freeze: I felt apprehensive whenever I had to speak. I looked for a teacher to reconnect with my roots and never found an approach that really moved me forward. Then came Aïcha. She gave me my confidence back, I built up my vocabulary, and today I feel more at ease.
After the classes, you need to keep practicing to make what you've learned stick. I was missing an app to do that with native Moroccans. I couldn't find one, so I created ZoujUp. This program brings the two together: a teacher to learn from, ZoujUp to practice with native speakers. Today, two teachers work with our students: Aïcha and Khadija.
One hour of class a week, live on video. She moves at your pace, not a classroom's.
Between classes, your teacher stays available on WhatsApp all week: she corrects your exercises and talks with you. She commits to replying within the day.
When your teacher gives you the green light, you start your first conversation with a native Moroccan on the ZoujUp app. It's a 20-minute conversation with someone who wants to learn English: 10 minutes in Darija, 10 in English. You hear right away what works and what doesn't.
ZoujUp matches you with a native Moroccan for a 20-minute session. It's an exchange: you help them with English, they help you with Darija.
The same teacher stays with you from the first day to the last: she teaches you, listens to you and corrects you.
A native Moroccan. For more than 25 years, she has taught children, teenagers and adults. I know her as a student: she is the one who gave me back the confidence to speak, and who took my daughter from almost zero to real conversations.
“All these years have taught me one essential thing: to learn well, you first need to feel comfortable and confident. With me, you'll learn Darija the way it's spoken in real life: simply, naturally and with a smile!”
Aïcha, ZoujUp tutor
A native Moroccan. She teaches the teachers: she is a trainer at the CRMEF, the center that prepares Morocco's teachers. Her specialty: teaching French to non-native speakers. She teaches both French and Darija.
“I have been teaching and training students and teachers for more than twenty years. I know where an adult gets stuck when learning a language, and how to help them move forward. With me, every class has a clear goal.”
Khadija, ZoujUp teacher
The names are in Darija: you're already learning two words.
Hold your first simple exchanges.
Go from sentences to real conversations.
You pay nothing before you've spoken to her. You book a call, and she answers all your questions before you begin.
Yes. Both packs are designed for people starting from zero, or close to it. The Bidaya Pack begins with your very first sentences.
That is our commitment. If you attend your classes and do your exercises, by the end of your pack you speak: you build your first sentences in Darija and say them out loud.
It doesn't stop at the last class. One or two months with a teacher give you your first sentences. To keep them, you have to keep using them. That is why the program brings both together: a teacher to learn from, and the ZoujUp app, during your pack and after it, to practice what she taught you with native Moroccans.
No. You start with your teacher, who prepares you. She is the one who gives you the green light for your first session. Until then, you practice with her on WhatsApp.
Aïcha or Khadija, depending on their availability and yours. Both are experienced teachers: Aïcha has been teaching since 2000, and Khadija has been teaching and training teachers for more than twenty years. You know who your teacher is from the first call, before paying, and you keep the same teacher from the first day to the last.
No. The goal is for you to speak Darija by the end of your pack, not to keep up with a class. Every class is one-to-one: your teacher starts from your level, moves at your pace and works on what is holding you back.
Yes: one hour a week on video, live, with your teacher. The rest of the week, she follows you on WhatsApp: she knows what you need to work on, corrects your exercises and keeps you moving until the next class.
To test what you're learning. ZoujUp matches you with a native Moroccan who wants to learn English. Each session lasts 20 minutes: 10 in Darija, 10 in English. You see for yourself what you can actually say. About fifty Moroccans are already taking part in the beta.
Yes. It is in beta until the end of October 2026, and you get access with your pack. It is due to open to everyone on the App Store and Play Store in November.
As with any language, what you've learned sticks through practice. You keep going on ZoujUp with native speakers, at your own pace. Access is included during your pack. After that, the app is subscription-based: the price will be announced at the public launch in November.
The program is intensive: it is open to learners aged 16 and over.
